The National Baking Team, Turkey’s Pride

By competing in the World Baking Championship finals during 5-9 Feb. 2016 in Paris, the National Baking Team has become a source of pride for Turkey. Gülten Yağmur, Buket Sisalan, Osman Gündüz and Muhammer Şimşek, representing Turkey in the Coupe du Monde de la Bougangerie, which is one of the most prestigious competitions in the baking sector worldwide, have also received unanimous acclaim from the audience during the event.

Having competed in the World Baking Championships finals (Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie) in Paris, the Turkish National Baking Team has become a source of national pride. In the event, which was officially supported by Turkey’s National Baking Federation, and mainly sponsored by Lesaffre, the National Team received commendation from the men and women of the audience. Supporters of the National Team draped the competition area in Turkish flags. As one of the 12 competing teams, the Turkish National Baking Team stood out with traditional tastes such as kale leaf bread, Bülbülyuvası desserts, and also struck great interest and support from viewers and judges alike with a piece depicting the Kırkpınar Oilwrestling events.

Buket Sisalan, a member of the Turkish National Baking Team, which was under the leadership of a female coach for the first time (Gülten Yağmur), represented our country in the artistic design category. Muhammer Şimşek competed in the Viennese Pastries and Gastronomic Bread Making category, while Osman Gündüz participated in the Baguette and World Breads category. At the conclusion of the four-day tournament, South Korea won first place with Taiwan second, and France taking third place.

Lessafre Domestic Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager Pınar Çakır stated: “We were greatly honored that the Turkish Baking National Team was able to participate at the World Baking Championship finals. We congratulate the entire team. As we do globally, we will continue supporting the development of the Turkish baking sector as well as that of its employees.”

Joining the championship after a period of long and arduous preparation, the National Team had previously competed in the Louis Lesaffre Cup Mediterranean-Africa Region International Qualifiers, 9-16 th April 2015, in order to make it to the finals. In the international qualifier matches, Turkish bakers competed against their Algerian, Moroccan, Iworian and Mauritian counterparts. Taking first place in the tournament, the Turkish National Baking Team thus qualified for the finals.
